Training for qualifying industrial establishment tower crane operators who do not require licencing under the Ontario Construction Regulation. This is NOT apprentice training meeting the Construction Regulation Standard.

The training shall consist of both theory and practical components following the footprint of both the National Occupational Analysis and Ontario College of Trades’ training standard, with limited scope to your facility’s operations and specific tower crane model.

Please note: It is very important to clearly define the difference between competency as an operator within the Industrial Regulations allowing one to operate within the very narrow circumstance of being in an industrial setting and on a specific crane that has been trained upon (which this training is), and the definition of being a licensed operator after completing a full apprenticeship and completing the Red Seal Examination, able to operate any equipment anywhere in Canada (which training this is NOT).

Instruction using industry materials, manufacturer’s operating manuals and drawings / load charts and Government publications to familiarize participants with the principals of safe operation, inspection, maintenance, rigging practices and procedures and communications for hoisting operations. Meeting the OHSA’s requirement of ‘Competent due to knowledge, training and experience’

The course is delivered by Ontario-Safety.ca's Director of Training and Operations, Les Kalinics (NCSO) who has worked in the construction industry since 1985 including many years as a tower crane operator. In 2011 and 2012 he had the opportunity to assist Human Resources Development Canada and the Ontario College of Trades in helping with the development of the National Occupational Analysis and Red Seal Exam (interprovincial) for tower crane operators. On June 17, 2013 this examination became the benchmark for qualifying new operators to practice in Canada and for assisting current operators to change from provincial licensing to interprovincial. Les worked as a tower, mobile, and heavy equipment instructor for the Operating Engineers Training Institute of Ontario (OETIO) until 2014 when he formed Ontario-Safety Training & Consulting Inc.
