Before work may begin with any excavation, trenching, and shoring activities, specific steps considerations must be considered to avoid the accidental disruption of utilities and assure the stability of adjacent structures. There’s a lot that can go wrong, so awareness and preparedness are critical priorities for protecting the workforce.

This program is primarily for supervisors and their workers that excavate deeper than 1.2 metres (4 ft). Emphasis is placed on soil types, legislation, and emergency work.

Program Content includes:

Personal protective equipment
Review of legislation
Emergency work
Determining soil types
Approved shoring/trenching boxes
Public safety
Use of heavy equipment
Underground hazards
Work area protection
High/low pressure gas mains

Program Duration is a half day. Participants will receive a Trenching Safety workbook and an Excavator Handsignal Reference Card.
